On January 28, 2026, VTTI announced its Final Investment Decision to construct new rail infrastructure at its Amsterdam terminal (ETA), a strategic move aimed at expanding logistics capabilities by adding rail as a fourth transport mode alongside barge, vessel, and truck, thereby enhancing flexibility and efficiency for customers handling gasoil and renewable diesel (HVO). Senior Vice President Quinten van Dam Merrett emphasized that the investment aligns with market demands and strengthens multimodal connectivity, while Port of Amsterdam’s Director Roon van Maanen praised the project for supporting the port’s ambitions to boost biofuel handling via sustainable transport. Construction is scheduled across 2026 and 2027, with the rail facility expected to become operational by the end of 2027, and its design already allows for future biodiesel (FAME) loading. This development not only cements VTTI Amsterdam’s role as a key Northwest European fuel hub but also reflects VTTI’s long-term strategy to support both current fossil-fuel needs and the gradual energy transition, while contributing significantly to the Port of Amsterdam’s connectivity and sustainability goals.
